Dr Lasse Thomassen writes that “taking the Occupy movement in Spain as a case in point, location, organisation and timing seem to be crucial when it comes to putting across a lasting message”. He comments that the British press and Occupy London movement are relatively silent on protest movements in Spain and Greece. Dr Thomassen makes a case for UK and North American protestors to learn from their “south European counterparts”, emphasising the importance of organising 'beyond the square' and chosing protest camps with care. He writes: "One of the strengths of the Occupy movements is their ability to create a narrative around politics as usual and critique the representative political system."
