Dr Lee Jones: What happens after Thailand’s king dies?

After spending five weeks in hospital with stomach inflammation, King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand was readmitted early last month for an operation to remove his gall bladder. As the King “ails”, Dr Lee Jones was interviewed on how the Adulyadej’s death is expected to be received by the public, and what might happen next. “The state has deliberately cultivated an enormous personality cult around him, into which many Thais have been socialised,” Dr Jones explains.
