Professor Tim Bale, Not a crisis but the new normal? UK parties in the twenty-first century

Reacting to this week’s publication of a report from the Electoral Reform Society, Professor Tim Bale argues that parties must – and most likely will – adapt to a much more crowded political environment. According to Bale, “…while both Ed and Dave are undoubtedly making all kinds of lists – and checking them twice – it doesn’t look like voters are going to play Father Christmas to either Labour or the Tories any time soon. Indeed, it sometimes seems as if both of them are about as popular as a power cut on Christmas Day.”
