Dr Rainbow Murray, The future of French politics

13 December 2015

Dr Rainbow Murray appeared on CNBC to analyse the second round of the French regional elections. She discussed the outcome, why the far-right National Front didn't win any seats - despite topping the polls in the first round - and why they still present a credible threat of eliminating François Hollande in the first round of the next presidential elections. In an article for LSE comment, Dr Murray said: “The real challenge ahead lies in the 2017 presidential election. The Socialists still run a high risk of wipeout in the first round, with Le Pen facing off against the Republican candidate in the second round. The Socialists have an enormous uphill battle ahead of them if they wish to avoid this scenario.”
