Dr Lee Jones, Sanctions are counterproductive

Sanctions have become the foreign policy instrument of choice for many countries but do they actually work, asks Sputnik News? Dr Lee Jones said: “There is a lot of research suggesting that authoritarian regimes are quite resilient to sanctions because they are insulated from social and political pressures that sanctions might unleash in their societies… And of course it’s mostly authoritarian regimes that get targeted by sanctions, so there is a kind of selection bias as the countries which are bound to be the most resilient to sanctions tend to be hit with them the most.”
