Dr Lee Jones appeared on BBC World News to discuss the trial of former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. He said: “It’s perhaps not too surprising that she has fled abroad because this a very politically motivated trial. So, the judiciary has essentially allied with the military, which is part of a wider force in Thai society trying to dismantle the political machine that was built up by Yingluck’s brother, Thaksin Shinawatra, and has won every Thai election since 2001.”
