Professor Tim Bale, Fianna Fáil TDs are drawing up their suicide note
25 January 2018
Journalist Ann Marie Hourihane writes about the ‘suicide’ of the Irish political party Fianna Fáil. She cites a recent article in the Irish Times by Professor Tim Bale which looked at the lessons Irish politicians could learn from the 2017 British Election. Professor Bale pointed out that the age profile of voters was an increasingly important factor in modern elections and that neither of Ireland’s main parties, “particularly Fianna Fáil, which needs to do better in bigger places”, would want “to get trapped on the wrong side of what in Ireland, too, may become an increasingly crucial demographic divide”.
