Professor James Dunkerley is one of the foremost scholars in the field of Latin American politics. Among his most recent publications are (editor with Maria d'Alva Kinzo), Brazil since 1985. Economy, Polity and Society (2003); (editor) Studies in the Formation of the Nation State in Latin America (2002); Americana. The Americas in the World, around 1850 (2000); Warriors and Scribes. Essays in Politics and History of Latin America (2000). He is a member of the executive committee of the Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Council (Canning House).

Dr Madeleine Davis also has a research interest in aspects of Latin American politics. One strand of her recent work has focused on the Pinochet case and its implications and effects, especially in terms of securing accountability for past human rights violations in countries that have undergone transitions from authoritarian rule. Her publications in this area include “The Pinochet Case”, ILAS Research Paper No.53, 2000; (editor) The Pinochet Case: Origins, progress and implications (London, ILAS, 2003); 'The indictment of Pinochet: pursuing justice in Chile 1973-2003', Hispanic Research Journal, Volume 5, No. 3, October 2004. She is an Associate Fellow of the Institute for the Study of the Americas.
