The Global War on Terror

Research students in the department

Lamont Colucci

The global war on terror, amplified by events on September 11th, 2001 has shifted the foreign policy of the United States towards a more unilateral and assertive position. This research will discuss the politics leading up to this shift and the shift in policy that took place in 2001 through 2003.

There are four facets to the research problem:

  1. Comparison of United States security policy prior to 9/11 and post 9/11;
  2. Decisions made as a result of 9/11 to change security policy;
  3. United States pressure and reaction to those security policy changes; and
  4. Long term consequences of the changes in American security policy.
