Simon Choat BA (Warwick), MA (York)
I completed a BA in History and Politics and an MA in Political Philosophy at York before arriving at Queen Mary. My PhD thesis looks at how four thinkers – Jean-François Lyotard, Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, and Gilles Deleuze – have read and used Marx.
I explore the extent to which these thinkers consciously draw from Marx, their rejection of a certain kind of Marx, and the possible use of post-structuralism as an extension and refinement of the Marxian critique of capitalism.
In addition to my own research, I am a teaching assistant on the first-year undergraduate course Introduction to Politics.
